Olivia Larkin
How old are you? I am just shy of 36 years old.
Are you in school or going to work? If so, what are are you in, or where do you work? Actually, I am doing both. I'm a high-school English teacher.
Are you married, dating, or single? I was previously married for five years. As of right now, I am single.
What significant events have happened in your history? Well, I guess you can say the most memorable event in my thirty some odd years was my marriage to Chris and the wonderful five years we spent together, then his untimely death. I suppose his death is the one thing I wouldn't want to remember, but it's something that's just hard to forget.
What are five things you like? Only five? Okay, um, I adore reading. I can read almost anything and find enjoyment in it. I suppose my being an English teacher makes that quite obvious. Okay, second, is chocolate, but what girl doesn't love that? Anyway, third would be riding my horse Wessel. I've been riding since I was a little girl and joined the equestrian team in college. Another thing I like are thunderstorms. Kind of an odd form of weather to like, but I can sit outside on the porch and just watch the lightning. Plus, I love the color the sky turns after an evening storm. Finally, I like to bake. Not cook, I'm not too great with cooking, but I think I make a pretty mean ginger snap.
What are five things you hate? Five things I hate? I don't know if that is an easy or hard question to answer. Let me think. Oh, the number one thing I hate is when my students hand in crap work, especially when I know they can do better and they know it too. Actually, laziness may be the number one. Number two, is hearing 'I can't'. I don't actually hear this often, but when I hear it I just respond 'Yes, you can' and hand the paper back. That goes for everyone, not just my students. Number three, bills, bills, bills. I know, everyone hates those and I can't make them go away, but I really do hate them. I especially hate paying them. Number four would have to be cleaning my house. Again, something I have to do, but don't enjoy doing. Often I put some music on or listen to my iPod while cleaning. Finally, I dislike the public school system. I don't like to follow a criteria for what my kids need to have learned by the end of each semester. I'll teach it, but I'll teach it my way.
What do you think is your best personality feature? Hm, I never really thought about my own personality before. Um, I think it's my rebellious attitude toward the school system. My students seem to find a place in my class that they can't in other classes. I don't have a real 'classroom' setting. I think they enjoy it a lot more, being able to interact instead of sit and listen to a lecture. Honestly though, I don't really know my best personality feature.
What is your worst personality feature? Oh, no. Another tough question. Worst personality feature... That would have to be my 'no nonsense' attitude. I may be a more liberal teacher, but when it comes to the work I assign, I expect the best my students can give and nothing less. I don't hesitate to tell them to get their brains out of their asses and do something over.
How would you describe your appearance? Ugh. Well, that depends on what side of the bed I wake up in the morning. No, I'm a teacher, therefore I have a professional appearance, but I don't hesitate to take off my shoes and walk around barefoot when they become uncomfortable. I often leave my hair down in loose curls, when it decides to cooperate in the morning. At night, or on weekends if I'm not doing anything, I'll throw it into a pony tail. Also on weekends, I more frequently wear sweatpants or jeans, maybe shorts, while during the week I am more accustomed to business attire. Summer is a whole 'other story though. That is whatever I find that's clean.
Describe yourself in one word. Wow, only one word. You know, I've had my students do this before as a 'getting to know you' activity the first day or two of class, but I've never participated myself. I guess after this I'll be able to. Let's see. 'Teachienne' It's a compound word of 'teacher' and 'equestrienne'. You didn't say it had to be a legalized word.
