Day job, huh? she responded and Jake smile amusedly. Well I’ve sent off like twenty or so resumes… all over. At this he was surprised. It was a good effort. Occasionally he'd see something he liked the look of and try and remember to dig out his own resumé but to send out so many.. he'd never really thought about doing it that way. He supposed she was simply open to anything, and it one had that attitude they probably would be able to pick up a job anywhere. Jake was more picky; if he couldn't see himself doing it, he didn't go for it. Not a great attitude when all he was trying to do was make money, but at least it meant he was happy to enjoy his freedom a little longer.
Some money would be nice right now - although I’m thankful that I had saved up a lot back home, so once it’s sent over here I won’t have to worry to much. Jake ran a hand through his hair; "I know what you mean," he replied, "Although I have my parents that I can rely on, for a bit. I suppose I'm lucky they live close." All he'd ever thought about them living in Arden was that it was annoying to have them breathing down his neck all the time. But now he thought about it, he realised some things would be difficult without being able to walk a couple of streets to their house. It was even easier since his mom had moved back in.
I’d love to be able to be a bartender or waitress… a mechanic job wouldn’t be too bad - I do love working on my car. Jake had considered bartending; it was the sort of thing that made it easy to get to know people, and to be taught new tricks. And waitressing, he was not surprised at; he was pretty sure every girl went through a phase of waitressing because it was quite easy to get into before you went onto greater things, and you get tips of course. But mechanic? That surprised him; he hadn't thought of Hales as that sort of girl. He really ought to have been ashamed at his own judemental nature, but all he thought was that it was a strange choice for a girl.
"I reckon you've got a good chance with all of those," he concluded. And anyway he didn't know whether she had friends, connections. Jake expected that if he talked to his friends who had jobs they'd be able to help him out. He made a mental note to do this next time he was with them. He glanced out at the road, wondering about the time. Usually he slept later than he had today, but the sun streaming in through his windows had woken him and with nothing else to do he'd got up. And gone for a walk. "It's nice and quiet at this time," he mused, though in Arden it never got overly busy. Or perhaps it was the location; he didn't suppose too many people came to the fountains on a regular basis.

Haleigh had been looking out at the traffic zooming past them, but she turned her head when Jake spoke to her, a habit that she sometimes didn’t like to have. Not right now of course. She liked talking to Jake, even though she’d just met him. I know what you mean. Although I have my parents that I can rely on, for a bit. I suppose I’m lucky they live close. Haleigh nodded, thinking. Yeah, you are. That and the fact that you seem to be able to tolerate them. A lot of kids can’t stand their parents, which sucks big time when they need a little extra cash here and there. A lot of her friends had to deal with broken down families, ones where the mother drank and didn’t give a fuck about her kids. Or it could be the same thing, except with the father. All Haleigh wanted, all she ever wanted was to have her mom alive. Sure, she probably wouldn’t have grown so close to her father, but at least she would’ve been able to have both parents telling her that they loved her. Something that she always desired to hear.
Haleigh had always been a down to earth, tomboy kind of gal growing up. Sure, she would wear a dress and get all prettied up, but that was just the outside. Deep down, she wondered what it would be to just have to wear a pair of jeans and a shirt to a family gathering and not receive weirded out looks from family members. Of course, she knew that she didn’t seem like a tomboy, but if you ever saw her car, then you would have to change that stereotype. She had worked and spent a lot of money on that thing… working on most of it herself. Sure, she had to get some professionals to give her directions, but she had done most of the additions by herself. Why? Well, Hales has a really strong sense of pride, and she liked how she can work on something - no matter what - and be able to complete it. That was what she loved the most: the finished product where she could show it off, which is what she did regularly. The windows down and country blarin’ as she drove around town just a little too fast for her own good. Oh well, she was young.
I reckon you’ve got a good chance with all of those. Haleigh nodded, and smiled. She had a good shot at being a bartender at Benson and Barnes just because Ty knew of someone who worked there, so he could hopefully get her hooked up. That was the plan, anyways. Yeah, any of ‘em I’ll be more than happy with… I just need a little extra cash so that I can get groceries with it and what not. She didn’t know why she was telling Jake all of this… maybe to keep the conversation going? Yeah, that was why. It’s nice and quiet at this time. Haleigh nodded, Yeah, although Arden Falls isn’t that busy at anytime. She smiled, then looked down, suddenly ashamed of herself. She probably shouldn’t have run her mouth so much - he might want to get home or do something else. Then again, he hadn’t made any moves or given any signals that he wanted to take off. Hales just enjoyed company from most people and she was a talker, that’s for sure.

Yeah, you are. That and the fact that you seem to be able to tolerate them. A lot of kids can’t stand their parents, which sucks big time when they need a little extra cash here and there. Jake laughed. She spoke the truth. "Well to be honest if I didn't need the money I'd have split with them long ago. As a teen I was always trying to quietly rebel." He had always preserved the relationship, purely because they really did come in handy when you needed lifts places, extra cash, or even, very occasionally, advice. However, Jake was glad his parents had never tried to sit him down and have 'the talk'. Seeing it on movies was painful enough, without having to go through it in real life too. Not that it would have made any difference if they had, he supposed.
In a way he hadn't been so lucky as a kid, when they'd split, but that was so common nowadays Jake hardly mentioned it to anyone, because rather than sympathy all you got was 'me too' or 'i wish mine were divorced'. And all in all, it hadn't affected him that much. Plus now, after their years of feuding they were back together. All for nought, apparantly. Moving his mind to other things, Jake instead continued to enjoy the sunlight, revelling in the fact that it didn't always blow a gale in Arden Falls. Actually pretty surprising.
When she spoke again, his gaze flicked back her. Yeah, any of ‘em I’ll be more than happy with… I just need a little extra cash so that I can get groceries with it and what not. Jake nodded. Sometimes he didn't know how he managed to keep his kitchen stocked. Well, if by 'stocked' one meant a couple of tins and a loaf of bread. Well, almost. If he was lucky Jake could eat out and put the bill on a friend, but even at home he wasn't a big eater. He got by alright with what he could afford. He didn quite enjoy cooking though, and could imagine that with more money he'd probably turn himself into a rather good home chef. It was only now he fleetingly considered it as a future profession. But what guy of any muscle became a caterer? Jake couldn't imagine himself following any of it through. He'd have to remain a closet one for now.
At his comment, she nodded and replied, yeah, although Arden Falls isn’t that busy at anytime. Jake inclined his head before leaning back on his hands, closing his eyes. "Perhaps the one good thing about Arden?" he said, a smile of humor playing across his lips. "Except for the lovely fountains," he added. They had come in a full circle, it seemed, except now Jake knew a lot more about her than when he'd first sat down. It was nice, because now he knew someone new and Haleigh was different to his other mates, someone he could actually imagine himself having coffee with and not having to be so superficial. Not that he could entirely drop his guard around her; she was a little too pretty for that; but she was a good talker and a good listener.
"Do... you have a mobile?" He asked, slightly hesitantly. It was a question he usually asked so smoothly, yet now he wasn't sure about his tone.

Haleigh giggled when he laughed, she liked making people laugh, which is something that I keep on saying. Anyways, she smiled over at him as he spoke to her. Well to be honest if I didn’t need the money I’d have split with them long ago. As a teen I was always trying to quietly rebel. Haleigh nodded, a lot of teenagers rebelled against their parents ‘who knew nothing.’ She hadn’t been one of those trouble teens… well, she had tried to rebel against her father by drinking ( which in hindsight was stupid ) but it turned out that he didn’t care if she drank. Which took half the thrill away from it. Maybe that was why he pretended to not care if she was drinking around him… or coming in from being out with friends… not quite sober. She never got completely plastered though, she never saw the point in waking up and not remember what you did last night… and where you currently were. She liked having a buzz though, feeling good, however you want to describe it. That was what she went for, and if she went over that she’d go outside and walk around in the cool night air. That would sober her up some more.
Haleigh was a pretty small eater. She didn’t like to have a huge feast and then suffer afterwards by feeling bloated and too full. She was lucky to have Ty though, because unlike him, she wasn’t a good cook in the kitchen. She really appreciated it when he’d make her a meal at her home, or his home… or at his work. Wherever he took her to eat, or wherever they went to eat it was always good food. She smiled as she thought about Ty. She hadn’t pegged him as a chef, but then again, she hadn’t known him for very long… it had just been a surprise, considering he looked more like a mechanic kind of guy or something of that nature. But she was happy that he was a cook, because she sucked in the kitchen. She could make some pasta, and some bagels or English muffins. That was about it… oh and she could make coffee. At her old home, her father and done most of the cooking, because he’d been forced to get to know the kitchen when her mother died. So by the time it was time for Hales to take off out of there, he hadn’t really gotten around to showing her much. Although, that didn’t mean that she wasn’t up for trying a recipe or something. If she really liked what Ty made her, she would ask him about it – and then try to attempt it at home. Usually she just ended throwing it out… what a waste of ingredients. And that would then make her frustrated.
She looked over at Jake as he leaned back, and listened to his words as he spoke to her. Perhaps the one good thing about Arden? Except for the lovely fountains. Haleigh giggled, but he did have a point – she liked that Arden Falls wasn’t the busiest place out there, it reminded her so much of the little town she was from in Texas. Oh com’mon – these fountains are so gorgeous! She said, a giggle working its way up her throat. She looked at him for a moment, then down at her lap. She wondered what time it was. Looking around for her iPod she turned it on to see the time. She should probably get going, but she was a polite little girl and didn’t like to leave abruptly. Do… you have a mobile? Haleigh smiled and nodded, but was hesitant to reply because his tone had changed so dramatically. Yeah I do: 614-762-0091. She paused, fishing out her cell phone and flipping it open. What’s yours? She asked, going to the contact section and clicking on ‘add.’
